Gunman sentenced to 25 years for Baton Rouge shooting
A man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a deadly shooting in Baton Rouge that took place in December 2023. Tremal Temonl Baker, 31, pleaded guilty to manslaughter after killing a woman and injuring a man during a fight outside an apartment. District Judge Louise Hines Myers issued the sentence on Monday. She also ordered Baker to give up any guns he may own. His guilty plea came as part of a deal with prosecutors, who dropped more serious charges against him, including attempted murder. The shooting occurred on December 22, when Baker shot 24-year-old Tamina Richardson and a man who was the father of her two children. Both victims were taken to the hospital, but Richardson later died from her injuries. According to police reports, an argument had broken out between the male victim and Baker, who is known by the nickname "Pop-a-lock." During the argument, Baker opened fire. Richardson was struck while trying to protect her children. Police found many bullet holes at the scene. The surviving victim shot back at Baker in self-defense. Body camera footage from the police showed chaotic scenes as officers tried to help both victims. After months of being on the run, Baker was arrested in April 2024 during a traffic stop. Public tips helped authorities identify him as the shooter.
