Gurgaon to build 2km cycle track and footpath

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Gurgaon plans to build a new 2km footpath and cycle track along a major road off the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR). The project aims to create safer and more accessible routes for pedestrians and cyclists. It will run between sectors 58/61 and 59/61. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has identified three agencies qualified to carry out the work. Construction will begin once the state government approves the necessary funding. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 15.9 crore, and it is expected to take about nine months to complete. GMDA officials say that the project is part of an effort to enhance infrastructure for non-motorised transport in the city. The tender process for this project began in February last year but faced delays. GMDA had to request bids again in June and November before selecting the agencies. This will be the first dedicated infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists in the new sectors along SPR. In addition to the 2km track, GMDA plans to develop further cycling and pedestrian infrastructure along a 56km corridor from Sector 58 to Sector 67. Other ongoing projects include a green corridor along an 11km stretch of Rampura – Pataudi Road and improvements on several short stretches in the city. Despite recent road expansions, Gurgaon has mostly overlooked non-motorised transport, with just over 18km of dedicated tracks currently available in limited areas.
