Gurugram approves demolition of three unsafe towers
The Gurugram district administration has approved the demolition of three unsafe towers at the NBCC Green View condominium. The towers, labeled E, F, and G, are in Sector 37D and have been deemed unsafe due to their poor condition. The decision follows a request from NBCC after parts of the buildings collapsed last year. Officials said that a detailed meeting was held on February 10, 2025, involving various stakeholders, including the Department of Town and Country Planning and the Public Works Department. The order specifies that the demolition must follow all relevant policies and guidelines. NBCC first applied for demolition in June 2024 after a structural audit by IIT Bombay found all seven towers unsafe. The Gurugram administration had earlier declared the entire complex uninhabitable under the National Disaster Management Act in February 2022, leading to an evacuation. Residents left the buildings based on these safety warnings. In a letter, Anil Kumar, NBCC's chief general manager, stressed the urgency of the demolition due to repeated structural failures. He reported that multiple balconies in Tower F collapsed last year, raising concerns about the potential for a tragic accident if people were nearby. With the recent order, NBCC has permission to demolish Towers E, F, and G, along with surrounding structures. The Green View project was started in 2010 and completed in 2017, consisting of seven towers with 784 apartments and additional EWS flats. Officials noted that NBCC still owns Towers E, F, and G, as these units were not sold. A government official remarked that given the situation's seriousness, the demolition will follow all recommended safety procedures.
