Gurugram police fines vehicles lacking registration plates
Gurugram traffic police are taking strict action against vehicles that do not have proper registration plates. This includes those without high security registration plates and those without any plates at all. The drive started on February 1 and has already issued over 18,000 fines. According to police, from February 1 to February 28, they fined 11,195 vehicles, collecting ₹77.62 lakh in penalties. Of these, 8,321 vehicles lacked high security registration plates, while others had no registration plates whatsoever. The police are focusing on areas across the city, including expressways, to catch offenders. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Virender Vij stated this initiative is led by Gurugram police commissioner Vikas Kumar Arora. The police aim to ensure that most vehicles in the city have these secure plates, which help improve safety. Vij noted that criminals often avoid high security plates to evade detection. He added that vehicle owners should not delay getting their high security registration plates after purchasing a vehicle. The Gurugram regional transport offices typically issue plates within 10-12 days of application, officials said. Vij also mentioned that some vehicle owners may try to hide or change numbers on their plates to escape fines. Police will continue to target these practices, emphasizing that high security plates simplify tracking in cases of theft or crime. The crackdown is expected to increase in intensity in the coming weeks to improve compliance and safety in the city.
