Gurugram promotes government school admissions through online campaign
The education department in Gurugram is launching an online campaign to boost student enrolment in government schools before the new academic year. This approach replaces traditional door-to-door efforts. Officials say the campaign especially targets high dropout rates in Class 9, focusing on retaining girls. Schools have been directed to identify students at risk of leaving school and to involve their parents actively. Classes for Class 9 will start on April 2. Schools must submit enrolment reports by April 11. Final exam results will be announced on April 1, during which students will also register for the upcoming year. Muni Ram, a local education officer, highlighted that using social media allows them to reach more families and inform them about the benefits of government schools. The campaign utilizes platforms like X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, featuring success stories and positive testimonials to attract disadvantaged students. The education department is monitoring enrolment closely, ensuring that every child who finishes Class 5 and Class 8 continues to the next class without obstacles. Manoj Lakra, a district project coordinator, emphasized this commitment. To maintain transparency, an online enrolment tracking system has been set up. Schools must ensure that any students transferring to different institutions are registered properly with their Student Registration Number (SRN). Dushyant Thakran, a headmaster, mentioned that if students who complete Class 5 lack access to upper primary schools, headmasters will assist in admissions at nearby schools starting on April 2.
