Gustnadoes caused debris hazard on Illinois highways
Gustnadoes were spotted crossing roads in central Illinois on March 19. These small whirlwinds blew debris onto vehicles on Interstate 74 and Highway 24 near the town of Chenoa. Carmen Palermo was driving when he saw one gustnado hit a gas station. He captured the moment on video, showing debris flying across the road. “I was out chasing storms and witnessed the gustnado that crossed the road in front of me and hit a Shell gas station,” he said. The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch and a severe thunderstorm warning for the area. They warned residents to expect hail, strong winds, and the possibility of tornadoes.
