Guwahati residents face water disruption for 48 hours
Water supply in 16 localities of Guwahati will be disrupted until Monday, March 24, due to maintenance work at the Panbazar Water Treatment Plant. The Guwahati Municipal Corporation announced the interruption as workers will replace a high-tension pole. Residents are worried about having no water during this time. Some might have to buy water from private suppliers if the work is not finished quickly. Affected areas include Panbazar, Fancy Bazar, and Bhangagarh, among others. Dimpi Saikia, a local resident, expressed concern, saying it would be tough if the work isn't done on time. Many neighbors have bore wells and can still access water, but others may face difficulties. Sachindra Kumar Baruah mentioned that his family has an alternative water connection, but not everyone is so fortunate. The Municipal Corporation has assured residents that water will be restored as soon as the work is done. They have also apologized for the inconvenience caused. To help transition existing consumers to a new water service, the corporation has been subsidizing connection charges. However, they plan to stop water supply in some areas starting July 1 and urge residents to apply for new connections before June 30 to cover the full cost.
