Gwendoline Christie breaks combat rule for Severance's finale
Gwendoline Christie, known for her role as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones, has joined the second season of the show Severance. In this new role, she plays Lorne, a Lumon employee responsible for caring for the goats. In the season finale, Christie’s character gets involved in a fight sequence, which she had previously avoided since finishing Game of Thrones. In an interview, she explained that after her time on the HBO series, she chose to stop doing fight scenes. She felt exhausted and wanted to show other sides of her acting talent. However, when the scene in Severance came up, she felt it was an important moment. Christie said it was like "psychic combustion." In the finale, her character helps Mark, played by Adam Scott, in a tense confrontation against Mr. Drummond. Lorne is frustrated with her role at Lumon and has had enough of following orders. Christie described her character’s deep emotions during the fight. She said Lorne, who has held back her feelings, finally expresses her rage. The scene was physically and emotionally taxing for Christie, similar to her experiences in Game of Thrones. She noted that the intense experience left her affected enough that she needed time to recover afterward.
