Gyan Prakash Sharma aims to excel in badminton
Gyan Prakash Sharma is a determined athlete from Patna, Bihar, who loves challenges. He started his sports journey playing wheelchair cricket for Uttar Pradesh. He later ventured into arm wrestling and won a bronze medal at a national championship. Gyan has been affected by paralysis since birth in both legs. Despite this, he has found a passion for badminton. He is competing in the Khelo India Para Games 2025 for the first time and hopes to excel in this sport. Gyan has recently completed his MBA in Human Resources from Shakuntala Mishra National Rehab University, where he also practices badminton. In 2023, while working at the Para National Championship in Lucknow, Gyan was inspired by the players and officials, which encouraged him to start playing badminton. He became the Bihar champion in his category the following year and reached the pre-quarterfinals at the Senior National Para Championship in Jamshedpur. Gyan is not just a badminton player; he is also a skilled arm wrestler. He got into arm wrestling on a friend's suggestion and unexpectedly won a bronze medal at the All India Open Championships in Indore last year. Though Gyan wants to secure a job to support his family, badminton remains his priority. He appreciates the facilities provided at the Khelo India Para Games and expresses hope for more such events to help athletes like him showcase their talents. Gyan is determined to make a name for himself in badminton and views the Games as a significant step in his journey.
