Hainan Airlines flight makes emergency landing in Rome after bird strike causes engine fire
A Hainan Airlines Boeing plane made an emergency landing in Rome on November 10 after a bird strike caused an engine fire shortly after takeoff. Flight HU438 was headed to Shenzhen, China, when it encountered the bird. The aircraft returned to Fiumicino Airport after circling over the Tyrrhenian Sea for 54 minutes to dump fuel and reduce weight. All 249 passengers and 16 crew members onboard were unharmed. The plane will remain grounded pending an investigation. Hainan Airlines has apologized for the incident and is providing assistance to affected passengers.
