Hakkipikki tribe members ordered to leave Gabon
Over 25 members of the Hakkipikki tribe from Channagiri taluk in Davangere, Karnataka, have been detained in Gabon. This follows new government policies in the African country. Twenty-two of these tribe members have been fined ₹55,000 each and ordered to leave Gabon. They are accused of using fake residency certificates. The situation has arisen due to changes in Gabon's political landscape. According to local officials, the Hakkipikki community often travels to African countries to sell goods like hair oil and Ayurvedic products. However, the new policies have created problems for them this year. Authorities are currently gathering more information about the case and its circumstances.
