Hamas denies halting hostage exchange talks with Israel
Hamas has denied reports that it has stopped talks with Israel about a prisoner exchange. In a statement, Hamas rejected claims from the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, saying that communication about the agreement is still ongoing. Hamas stressed that the prisoner exchange deal remains a primary focus of their negotiations. They are in contact with mediators and are reviewing proposals presented by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff. The group's goals include releasing prisoners, ending the war, and achieving an Israeli withdrawal. An anonymous source within Hamas said they are looking at a proposal to ease military tensions in Gaza and to restart a preliminary ceasefire along with the prisoner exchange talks. Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Hamas might have suspended discussions due to Israel's renewed attacks, which began on Tuesday and have resulted in significant casualties. The death toll from these strikes has reportedly risen to 591, with over 1,000 people injured.
