Hamilton police declare area safe after explosive found

Police in Hamilton are investigating after an "explosive substance" was discovered in a high-rise apartment building. The incident occurred on March 17 around 1:45 p.m. Authorities were alerted to the apartment building on Jackson Street when reports of "suspicious circumstances" emerged. Upon arrival, officers were led to a storage locker located in the basement. The Hamilton Police Service contacted the Emergency Disposal Unit for assistance. They examined the explosive material and determined that the area is now safe. As a precaution, Caroline Street was closed from Hess to Hunter to Main streets during the investigation, but it has since reopened.
