Harney County faces flood warning from Tuesday to Friday
Harney County is under a flood warning from Tuesday at 10 a.m. until Friday at 11 p.m. The National Weather Service issued this warning due to expected minor flooding along the Silvies River near Burns. Flooding at 12 feet can affect fields and private properties in Burns, particularly around North Broadway Avenue, Foley Road, and Stancliff Road. Water may also approach Highway 20 near the Silvies River Bridge, and some low spots in the Burns RV Park could be impacted. Residents are advised to take precautions. The National Weather Service warns against driving in flooded areas, as most flood-related deaths happen in vehicles. If roads are flooded, people should turn around and follow evacuation orders when issued. Furthermore, if you live in a flood-prone area, move to higher ground. Disconnect utilities and avoid flooded basements to prevent electrical hazards. If you hear unusual sounds or see sparks, evacuate immediately. When heavy rains occur, avoid walking or driving through floodwaters. Just a small amount of fast-moving water can sweep you away. Stay alert to weather updates and follow safety recommendations to ensure your safety during this flood warning.
