Harrington predicts McIlroy will eventually join Champions Tour
Padraig Harrington believes Rory McIlroy will eventually change his mind about playing on the Champions Tour when he turns 50. McIlroy, a four-time major winner, has said he wants to retire with some energy left and has ruled out competing in senior golf. He emphasized, "Absolutely not. I will not play Champions Tour golf." Despite McIlroy's strong stance, Harrington, who has won nine times on the senior circuit, thinks he will reconsider. He pointed out that the Champions Tour offers golfers a chance to revisit past successes. "For most people my age, going on a one-week golf trip is the biggest thing they could do in a year,” he said. “I get to do it 30 times a year." Harrington feels that the excitement of the Champions Tour, with its competitive atmosphere, might draw McIlroy in the future. He mentioned that enjoying the pressure of hitting important shots could be appealing for athletes longing for their past glory. Harrington also noted that turning 50 brings a change in perspective, suggesting McIlroy might find enjoyment in senior golf like legendary players Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer did. "It's likely that things will change," he said, adding that the fun and glory found on the Champions Tour could be hard to resist.
