Harrisville boys, Malone girls win state basketball games
Harrisville Boys and Malone Girls won their New York State sub-regional basketball games on Wednesday. Harrisville overcame a slow start to defeat Bolton Landing 53-38, while Malone scored 46 points in the second half to beat Utica Notre Dame 58-50. In other games, Potsdam Boys lost to Marcellus 61-49, and Canton Girls fell to Bishop Grimes 55-39. Malone's victory was notable as they rallied from a 17-point deficit, showcasing strong shooting in the second half. Malone's Reaegan McCardle and Olivia Simser played key roles in their comeback, scoring 16 and 18 points, respectively. Ella Trinkaus from Utica Notre Dame led all scorers with 35 points despite the loss.
