Haryana deepens Tangri river to prevent flooding in Ambala
The Haryana government has started a project to deepen the Tangri river by six feet in Ambala Cantonment. This effort aims to prevent flooding and improve drainage for local residents. The project's cost is Rs 2.67 crore. Haryana's energy, transport, and labour minister, Anil Vij, announced that the work has begun. He mentioned that the deepening will help protect thousands of residents from monsoon flooding. Sand removed from the river will be used for a nearby ring road project. The project also includes strengthening and raising the embankment along the Tangri river. This should help ensure smooth water flow and reduce overflow risks. There are plans to widen narrow sections of the river, with approvals for this proposal pending from the government. An agreement has been signed among the irrigation department, the National Highways Authority of India, and the Ambala Sadar Municipal Council for these improvements. Minister Vij assured that the deepening work will finish before the monsoon season. Additionally, the Tangri Dam road will soon connect to GT Road, improving access for several local areas. The road is being widened by six feet to enhance safety for drivers and passengers. These upgrades are seen as an important step toward better infrastructure and flood prevention in the region.
