Haryana sees significant heroin seizures, especially in Sirsa
Haryana has seen a significant rise in heroin smuggling over the past six years. Authorities have seized a total of 204 kg of heroin from January 2019 to December 2024. This rise indicates that the state is becoming a major hub for drug trafficking and consumption. Sirsa district has reported the highest heroin seizures, with 40.55 kg confiscated. Its location near Punjab and Rajasthan makes it a key transit point for drug traffickers. Fatehabad follows with 21.85 kg seized, showing the close connection between border areas and the heroin trade. Other districts also reported notable seizures. Jind saw 17.62 kg taken, while Hisar and Ambala followed closely with 14.15 kg and 14.18 kg, respectively. Yamunanagar, Gurugram, and Faridabad have also recorded substantial amounts of heroin confiscated. In total, the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau has registered 1,540 cases related to drug trade, involving nearly 2,000 individuals. From these, 2,625 people have been arrested, with 1,406 cases still pending trial and only 57 leading to convictions. In addition to heroin, the enforcement agencies have seized large quantities of other drugs, including 1,527 kg of charas and 53,186 kg of ganja. They also recovered numerous pharmaceutical drugs, reflecting a broader issue of drug misuse in the state.
