Hawks lead NBL with strong start and new players
The Big Barrel Hawks are performing well in the national basketball league. They currently have a strong record of 3 wins and 1 loss after their first four games. Despite losing to the Otago Nuggets at home, the Hawks secured a close victory against the Franklin Bulls on the road. The team has not yet welcomed several new members. Coach Sam Gruggen and three international players are expected to join soon. On Sunday, Gruggen, who was an assistant coach, helped lead the Illawarra Hawks to victory over Melbourne United, securing their first league title since 2001. Wani Swaka Lo Buluk was a standout player in that game, scoring 16 points. Meanwhile, Daniel Grida and Lucas Yates also contributed, although with fewer points. The Hawks are preparing for their next game against Taranaki Airs, scheduled for Saturday. However, the arrival of the new players remains uncertain. The franchise manager has stated they are ready to arrange travel if necessary.
