Hazlina Abdul Halim seen as potential PAP candidate
Madam Hazlina Abdul Halim, a potential candidate for Singapore's ruling People's Action Party (PAP), was seen during a walkabout in Marine Parade on March 22. This event suggests she might be part of the new Marine Parade-Braddell Heights Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the upcoming election. At the walkabout, Hazlina, former CEO of Make-A-Wish Singapore, was introduced to locals by Manpower Minister Tan See Leng. She interacted with residents and market stallholders, wearing a white outfit and a PAP badge. Hazlina, 40, has a background in radio and television and previously led the Singapore Muslim Women’s Association. Hazlina expressed her commitment to serving the community, mentioning her decade-long experience in various organizations. Tan See Leng was noncommittal about her candidacy, stating that PAP candidates are adaptable, emphasizing that the final candidate line-up is still under discussion. The Marine Parade GRC will undergo boundary changes, incorporating parts of other constituencies. This reshaping leads to potential adjustments in candidates, causing uncertainties among current officeholders like Mr. Edwin Tong. Local stallholder Chan Sek Inn shared his thoughts on new faces like Hazlina, noting that they bring a refreshing change to the team. Marine Parade MP Tin Pei Ling praised Hazlina's ability to connect with the community. Other political figures were also present, discussing the importance of their track record with voters. They emphasized the candidates' qualities and their commitment to serving local needs. As the election approaches, the final decisions on candidates and team assignments remain pending, with much anticipation about how the shifting boundaries will impact the PAP.
