Healey discusses trade impacts with Canadian officials
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey met with Canadian officials from Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick to discuss trade relations amid ongoing tariffs imposed by President Trump. The meeting took place during the 2025 Seafood Expo North America. The discussions focused on the impact of Trump's tariffs on the economic partnership between Massachusetts and Canada. Healey emphasized the importance of collaboration to strengthen both economies. Tariffs against Canada were first announced in February and have faced delays. New tariffs on steel and aluminum imports took effect on March 12, with further duties expected on April 2. Canada plans to impose tariffs on U.S. goods starting April 1.
