A study in the BMJ Evidence-Based Medicine Journal found that a healthy lifestyle can reduce the impact of "life-shortening" genes by over 60%. Unhealthy habits increase the risk of premature death by 78%. The research involved 350,000 participants and identified four key factors for a healthy lifestyle. Those with a high genetic risk and unhealthy habits were twice as likely to die early. Adopting healthy habits at 40 could extend life by 5.5 years.
