Healthy lifestyle program benefits individuals with lupus
A new study examines the effects of a lifestyle intervention for people with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Researchers focused on personal experiences and health outcomes from a program called Living Well with Lupus. Nineteen individuals with SLE and high cardiovascular risk took part in this six-month program. The intervention included goal-setting, home exercises, nutritional counseling, and standard medical care. Participants reported positive changes in their health behaviors and knowledge. Many improved their daily functioning and mental health. They adopted better dietary habits, started meal planning, read food labels, increased their water intake, and exercised more. Instead of focusing on losing weight, they aimed for overall health improvements. However, the study noted that sustaining these changes can be difficult due to personal challenges and factors like socioeconomic conditions. Researchers emphasized the need for personalized support and motivational interviewing to help individuals maintain their new habits. Overall, this study suggests that a comprehensive lifestyle program can enhance health behaviors and mental well-being in people with SLE. It may also pave the way for future research on lifestyle changes in SLE treatment.
