Heatwave warning issued for northern Karnataka region

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a heatwave in northern interior Karnataka until March 20. The temperature in Kalaburgi reached a high of 42.8°C. Meanwhile, Odisha is expected to receive rain relief from the heat. The IMD reports that some areas in Karnataka, like Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu, have also experienced light to moderate rain. In Andhra Pradesh, a heatwave alert is in place for 58 mandals. On March 19, temperatures in places like Pedda Devalapuram and Ulindakonda hit 42.7°C and 42.6°C, respectively. Odisha faced severe heat from March 16 to 18, with Boudh recording the country’s highest temperature of 43.6°C. The state capital, Bhubaneshwar, also experienced high temperatures at 34.6°C. The weather department predicts rain, lightning, and thunderstorms in Odisha from March 19 to March 21, which should help cool down the hot and dry conditions. Other states like Jharkhand and West Bengal are also dealing with heatwave conditions, with several districts reporting temperatures above 40°C.
