Heavy rain floods Hyderabad, causing traffic delays
Hyderabad experienced heavy rainfall early Saturday morning, providing some relief from the heat but causing waterlogging and traffic issues. Rainfall measurements showed up to 54.5 mm at the University of Hyderabad, while other areas like Vivekananda Nagar and Madhapur also recorded significant amounts. The downpour resulted in severe waterlogging in various locations, leading to slow-moving traffic across the city. Key areas were particularly affected, including the Kondapur underpass towards Gachibowli and the Lingampally railway underbridge, which were submerged and caused delays for commuters. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and traffic police were deployed to manage the situation and help reduce congestion. Many residents also reported power outages, leading to frustrations shared on social media. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), more rain and thunderstorms are expected later in the day, along with gusty winds and a generally cloudy sky.
