Helen A. Winkler, 88, passed away in New York
Helen A. Winkler, 88, passed away peacefully on March 9 after a brief illness. She was born on May 30, 1936, in Albany, New York. Helen grew up in Watervliet and graduated from the New York State College for Teachers, which is now known as SUNY Albany. She later earned a Master's degree in Spanish Language from the University of Hartford. In 1958, Helen married Gunther Winkler, and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage until his death in 2016. Helen was a dedicated Spanish teacher at Bolton High School. She was actively involved with the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) and received the title of "State Director of the Year" in 1994. In 1995, she was recognized by the University of Connecticut for her excellence in teaching. Helen was passionate about her community in Bolton. She served as President of the Bolton Scholarship Fund from 1995 to 2007. She is survived by her two sons, Jeffery and Brian, along with four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A memorial service for Helen will take place on April 4 at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home in Manchester, Connecticut, from 4 to 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bolton Scholarship Fund or the Bolton Land Trust.
