Helldivers 2 team expands from 20 to 130 developers
Helldivers 2 has seen significant growth since its development began. Initially, just 20 developers worked on the game. Now, that number has increased to around 130. This growth reflects the game's success for Arrowhead Game Studios. The development team expanded from 20 people in 2016 to 105 at the game's launch in February 2024. Senior materials artist Romain Lemaire shared this timeline during a presentation at the Game Developers Conference (GDC). He mentioned that the team is still growing, with ongoing hiring efforts, including for a new product director. Despite the popularity of Helldivers 2, Arrowhead is also looking ahead. Creative director Johan Pilestedt is already working on ideas for the next game. He hinted that they might be growing Helldivers 2 into Helldivers 3, although this could also mean continuing support for the current game. Recently, Arrowhead released a new patch that made Helldivers 2 slightly harder. They also announced a new game feature called the Borderline Justice Warbond. The studio is clearly committed to the Helldivers franchise and its future development.
