Henderson hired van for Euro final to support teammates
Jordan Henderson, a football player with 81 caps for England, took a van trip to watch the national team during the European Championship final last summer. He could not find a flight to Berlin to support his teammates, as he had been left off the final squad. Henderson drove nearly 500 miles from Amsterdam with his family to make the match. He found the journey amusing, especially the reactions from fans at service stations. Despite missing out on being with the team, he felt it was important to be there for the match. At the time, Henderson was off the England radar and hadn’t played a match as part of the squad ahead of the Euros. The new manager, Thomas Tuchel, discovered Henderson when he spoke to the Football Association staff. After discussions, Tuchel decided to give Henderson another chance. Henderson remained hopeful about returning to the team. He did not consider retiring and stayed focused on his performance with Ajax. He believes having experienced players in a team is vital for success, especially in big tournaments like the World Cup. Currently, Henderson is part of the squad for World Cup qualifiers and has a chance to help England qualify for the tournament. He looks forward to possibly playing on the pitch with his teammates next time, rather than just watching from a van.
