The Punjab and Haryana High Court is asking for information about the effectiveness of employment exchanges in Haryana. The court wants to know how many people have been employed through these exchanges. Additionally, it has requested details about the staff and funds used to operate them. Justice Mahabir Singh Sindhu made these comments while handling a bail request from Harpreet Singh. He is facing charges related to a case from June 2024, where Sushil Kumar allegedly cheated several individuals by promising them government jobs. Kumar reportedly took ₹60,000 from each person but did not deliver. The court noted that employment exchanges seem to be ineffective in helping people find jobs. Singh's lawyer argued that his client had no involvement in the alleged crimes and that his name was added to the case later. The court granted Singh temporary protection from arrest and ordered him to cooperate with the ongoing investigation. The high court pointed out that issues like the one in this case are common in Haryana. It has instructed the chief secretary to submit an affidavit with complete information about employment exchanges. This includes the number of unemployed individuals registered as of February 28, 2025, and the total funds spent on these exchanges in the past three years. The next hearing is scheduled for May 8.
