High Court urges removal of encroachments on highways
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court is looking into a request regarding a public road. The road connects Kanniyakumari to Kaliyakkavilai in Kerala. A petition was filed by A. Jeeva from Kanniyakumari district, asking for action against encroachments on the road. The petitioner claims that buildings and structures on both sides of the National Highway have made the road unsafe and congested. He argues that this 55-km stretch is poorly maintained and varies in width, creating dangerous conditions for drivers. The petition highlights that these issues have led to accidents, injuries, and traffic delays. Jeeva pointed out specific areas where encroachments are affecting safety. These include key junctions at Kuzhithurai, Marthandam, and others. He also mentioned that he informed authorities about this problem, but no action has been taken. The court is now awaiting a response from the relevant authorities.
