High-dose creatine may enhance brain function temporarily
A recent study from Germany found that a high dose of creatine may help improve brain function in sleep-deprived individuals. The study showed cognitive benefits lasting up to nine hours after taking the supplement, which could serve as an alternative to caffeine. The trial involved 15 healthy participants who were kept awake for two nights. They received either a high dose of creatine or a placebo. While the results were promising, researchers cautioned against high doses due to potential health risks and emphasized the need for further studies on lower doses. Current recommendations suggest a daily creatine intake of 3 to 5 grams, while the study used doses of 20 to 30 grams. Experts noted that creatine is generally safe but may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with preexisting health conditions.
