High pressure area drives recent typhoons to Northern Luzon, says Pagasa

inquirer.net

A weather specialist from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) explained that a high-pressure ridge north of the Philippines is causing recent typhoons to hit Northern Luzon. This has led to multiple landfalls, including Severe Tropical Kristine and Typhoon Marce. Typhoon Ofel is expected to make landfall in Isabela or Cagayan on Thursday. Another tropical storm, Man-yi, is projected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility soon and will be named Pepito upon entry. Pagasa noted that the number of tropical cyclones this November has exceeded their forecast. They initially expected one to two cyclones but are now anticipating four. The northeast monsoon is expected to shift future cyclones southward, potentially affecting the Visayas and Mindanao regions in December.
