Debrina Kawam, a 57-year-old woman from New Jersey, was recently identified as the victim of a fire attack on a Brooklyn subway train. Her high school yearbook photo has gone viral, highlighting her “million dollar smile” and aspirations to be a flight attendant. Kawam had been living in New York City homeless shelters before the incident. She was attacked while asleep by Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, a 33-year-old illegal immigrant, who has been indicted on multiple charges, including first-degree murder. Zapeta-Calil, who was previously deported, claims he does not remember the attack due to intoxication. If convicted of first-degree murder, he could face life in prison without parole.
