Himachal CM seeks compensation for 2023 monsoon losses

Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh in July and August 2023 caused severe floods and landslides. Tragically, about 550 people lost their lives during this monsoon season. On Saturday, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Sukhu urged Shah to release compensation for the state's losses from the disaster. The state has submitted a request for financial aid based on a post-disaster needs assessment. However, they are still waiting for a response from the central government. Sukhu informed Shah that the rains caused significant damage. This impacted drinking water supplies, irrigation systems, roads, and bridges. Despite these challenges, the state government has been managing its resources. During the meeting, various issues concerning the state were discussed. Shah promised to provide all possible assistance to Himachal Pradesh.
