Hisar doctor sentenced for issuing bounced Rs 6.5L cheque
A local court in Hisar has sentenced Dr. Anant Ram Barwala, the owner of a private hospital, to three months in jail. This decision came after a cheque he issued for Rs 6.5 lakh bounced due to insufficient funds. The case began when Sudhir Kumar Raheja filed a complaint against Dr. Barwala on January 22, 2019. Raheja claimed that Dr. Barwala gave him a cheque in 2018 to settle a debt, but it was not honored. Dr. Barwala was charged under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Raheja had previously sent a legal notice to Dr. Barwala, requesting payment, but he did not get a reply. This lack of response led Raheja to take legal action. Judicial Magistrate Avishak Garg delivered the verdict, which also requires Dr. Barwala to pay Rs 6.5 lakh in compensation to Raheja. Dr. Barwala is already in jail for another case related to foetal sex determination, leading the court to issue warrants concerning his current situation.
