Hockey excluded from 2026 Commonwealth Games, says Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh
Hockey has been excluded from the 2026 Commonwealth Games, a decision Indian men's hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh called "unfortunate." The team was aiming for a gold medal, having previously reached the finals in 2010, 2014, and 2022. The 2026 Games will take place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2 and will feature only 10 sports. Other excluded sports include cricket, wrestling, table tennis, badminton, and squash. This is a reduction from 19 sports in the 2014 Glasgow Games. The Indian women's hockey team won the only gold medal for India in the Commonwealth Games in 2002. The men's team did not compete that year. In the last edition, India won 61 medals, including 22 gold.
