Holland College closes; UPEI delays opening due to weather
Holland College will close all its campuses on Tuesday due to expected freezing rain. UPEI will delay the opening of its campuses in Charlottetown and St. Peter's Bay until noon. The Atlantic Veterinary College Veterinary Teaching Hospital will remain open for emergency services. Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for Prince Edward Island, warning of significant freezing rain expected to last for four to eight hours. The weather forecast predicts the rain will change to freezing rain and ice pellets, moving from the west to the east throughout the day. CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin stated that the freezing rain might not start until mid-morning and will worsen in the afternoon. Simpkin noted that surfaces could become very slippery as freezing rain and ice pellets accumulate. Environment Canada advises residents to be cautious while walking or driving in affected areas.
