Hong Kong plans cross-border railway project to Shenzhen
Hong Kong is looking for developers for a new cross-border railway project that will connect Qianhai in Shenzhen with Hung Shui Kiu in Hong Kong. The city's transport minister, Mable Chan, announced plans to measure interest from developers later this year. The project aims to relieve congestion at the Shenzhen Bay control point by including a new station on the mainland side. Chan explained that mainland Chinese authorities may take charge of building the tunnel under Deep Bay to speed up the project. Chan mentioned that the plan is to use a “design, build and operate” contract. This means one contractor will handle the design, construction, and management of the railway. She also said Hong Kong could allow Shenzhen to construct its part of the tunnel under Deep Bay.
