Hong Kong schools advised against high-risk foods abroad
Hong Kong's education authorities are advising schools to avoid serving high-risk foods during study tours to mainland China. This recommendation comes after over 100 pupils and teachers fell ill with acute gastroenteritis while on exchange trips. The health issue was highlighted by a recent outbreak reported on Tuesday evening. Many of the affected were primary school students. In response, the Education Bureau's platform for exchange programs urged schools to steer clear of risky foods. Officials specifically mentioned that schools should not provide raw foods, cold dishes, siu mei, or shellfish during these tours. The bureau also instructed contractors for student exchange programs to stop supplying these items. In recent weeks, nine schools have reported cases of acute gastroenteritis among their students and teachers. The education authorities are taking these steps to ensure the safety of students on trips to the mainland.
