Hong Kong simplifies entry for ASEAN professionals
Hong Kong is making it easier for certain professionals from Southeast Asia to visit the city. The new immigration policy allows invited business leaders and legal professionals from Asean countries to travel to Hong Kong multiple times over three years. John Lee Ka-chiu, the leader of Hong Kong, announced the "Immigration Facilitation Scheme for Invited Persons." This scheme will start on Tuesday and aims to support the local economy. Lee noted that Asean is one of Hong Kong's key economic partners and helps the city in trade. The scheme is designed to encourage Asean professionals to take part in major events in Hong Kong. It is also intended for those looking to invest or do business there. Lee mentioned that this initiative would help these professionals use Hong Kong as a gateway to access mainland China and other global markets. As part of the plan, the Commercial and Economic Development Bureau and the Department of Justice will invite specific Asean business leaders and legal experts to join the program starting Tuesday. This invitation is aimed at those who can significantly contribute to Hong Kong's economy or are attending important events in the city.
