Hong Kong tests drones for low-altitude economy projects
Hong Kong plans to test drones to boost its low-altitude economy, focusing on safety. Transport minister Mable Chan announced that 38 projects have been chosen for the pilot program. These projects will involve activities like emergency rescue and parcel delivery. The tests will require drone operators to always keep the devices in their line of sight. Chan indicated that the aim is to gradually move beyond this restriction in the future. She noted that drones will come with safety features, including multiple propellers for emergency landings. The low-altitude economy includes operations within 1 kilometer of the ground, such as drone deliveries and flying cars for passengers. This scheme started in November and is designed to help the government experiment with airspace management and create necessary regulations for this emerging industry.
