Hot air mass raises temperatures in Brisbane and Sydney as heatwave conditions set in
A mass of hot air is moving into Queensland and northern New South Wales, raising temperatures in Brisbane and Sydney. Highs in the 30s and 40s are expected on Thursday and Friday, with severe heatwave conditions affecting the region. Fire danger is high in north-western New South Wales and much of Queensland, with total fire bans in place. In Victoria, the fire danger level has been downgraded from extreme to high in some areas. While fires near Dirranbandi in Queensland are now contained, there are concerns they could reignite. Thunderstorm risks are also present as the region prepares for the upcoming summer heat.
