Hot summer to boost sales of beverages and durables
India is expecting a hot summer, which is likely to boost sales of consumer goods. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts higher-than-normal temperatures and an increase in heatwave days from March to May. Businesses selling beverages, air-conditioners, and personal care products are preparing for increased demand. Paritosh Ladhani from SLMG Beverages anticipates a 20% growth in sales this season compared to last year. The upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) is expected to further drive beverage sales. Companies making fans and air-coolers are also gearing up for the season. Ravindra Singh Negi from Orient Electric said they have aligned their manufacturing plans to meet rising demand for cooling products. Sales of air-conditioners are expected to grow by 30% this year, according to research from Jefferies. Kamal Nandi from Godrej Enterprises noted a significant increase in sales of air-conditioners and refrigerators in February. He aims for a 50-70% growth in air-conditioner sales and 25-30% growth in refrigerators this summer. Despite some slowdown in overall demand, companies are preparing for a strong summer. They are raising inventory levels and channel partners are beginning to fill sales channels. There is an expectation for growth in personal care products like soaps and deodorants, as warmer weather often leads to increased consumption.
