House panel fails to agree on releasing report about Matt Gaetz
The House Ethics Committee did not agree on releasing a report about former Rep. Matt Gaetz during a meeting on Wednesday. This follows Gaetz's resignation after being nominated by Donald Trump for attorney general. Committee chairman Michael Guest stated he opposed releasing the report, claiming the committee lost jurisdiction after Gaetz's resignation. However, Rep. Susan Wild, the top Democrat on the committee, disputed this, saying there was no consensus and that they would reconvene on December 5. The investigation into Gaetz, which began in 2021, looked into allegations of sexual misconduct and drug use. The committee had gathered extensive evidence, including witness testimonies and financial records, but the resignation complicates the release of the report.
