House passes funding bill, moves to Senate approval
The House of Representatives passed a funding bill late Tuesday by a vote of 217-213, mostly along party lines. The bill now moves to the Senate, where it must be approved by Friday to avoid a partial government shutdown. The legislation extends funding levels from fiscal 2024 and includes increases for defense, veterans healthcare, and immigration enforcement, while cutting non-defense spending. One Republican, Rep. Thomas Massie, voted against the bill, while Rep. Jared Golden, a Democrat, supported it. President Trump called the House passage a "big win" and urged Republicans to support the bill. The Senate will need at least eight Democratic votes to meet the required 60-vote threshold for approval.
