House to vote on funding bill to avert government shutdown
The House will vote this week on a three-month funding bill to prevent a government shutdown, set for Oct. 1. The new bill excludes a controversial election law provision that former President Donald Trump had requested. Speaker Mike Johnson reached an agreement with the White House and Democrats to maintain current funding levels through Dec. 20. This follows a failed six-month funding bill that included Trump's proposal, which faced opposition from some Republicans. The new bill includes $231 million for the Secret Service after recent security incidents involving Trump. While many Republicans and Democrats support the bill, some conservatives oppose it, preferring to delay funding discussions until next year.
