NEPTUNE - Police in Howell helped catch a suspected thief after he stole cash from a pizza shop. The incident happened on March 24 at Tino's Artisan Pizza in Ocean Grove. The owner reported a burglary, stating that nearly $300 in cash was taken. Neptune Township Police arrived at the scene after receiving the call. They reviewed security footage and shared a photo of the suspect with other law enforcement agencies. However, initial searches for the suspect were unsuccessful. Later that evening, Howell Police responded to a burglary alarm at Barg's Lawn and Garden. They found 37-year-old Jacob Johnson, of Neptune, trespassing at the business. Officers recognized him from the photo provided by Neptune police. After interviewing Johnson, Neptune detectives charged him with the theft from Tino's Artisan Pizza. Johnson is also facing additional complaints related to other incidents in Monmouth County. He has been taken to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution and is awaiting a detention hearing. Neptune Township Police thanked Howell Police for their assistance in resolving the case efficiently.
