Huawei's Pura X launches with HarmonyOS in China
Huawei has introduced its new Pura X foldable smartphone, marking a significant change in the mobile industry. Launched on March 20 in Shenzhen, the Pura X features a wide screen and operates on HarmonyOS 5, Huawei's own operating system, eliminating any link to Google's Android. The Pura X looks like a standard flip phone, but it opens to reveal a spacious 6.3-inch inner display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. This design provides users with more screen area while the 3.5-inch outer display allows for notifications, calls, and photos without needing to unfold the device. This phone is a game changer for Huawei. After being restricted by U.S. sanctions since 2019, it is the first device to completely abandon Android. The Pura X also introduces Xiaoyi, Huawei’s AI assistant, which utilizes DeepSeek AI for advanced features like voice commands and eye-tracking. In terms of hardware, the Pura X boasts a 4,720-mAh battery that supports 66W fast charging and 40W wireless charging. It offers cutting-edge connectivity with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. The collection edition even includes satellite communication capabilities. For photography enthusiasts, the phone is equipped with impressive camera features, including a 50MP main sensor and a 40MP ultra-wide lens, enabling users to take professional-quality photos and 4K videos. Huawei sees the Pura X as more than just a smartphone; it represents a bold departure from Android and a strong endorsement of its own technology. The Pura X comes in multiple colors and configurations, with prices starting at 7,499 yuan (about $1,037) and going up to 9,999 yuan (around $1,500) for premium editions. Currently, it is available only in China, but it has attracted attention on the global stage.
