Human Rights Campaign plans to soften corporate advocacy
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is planning to change its approach. The advocacy group has been a key player in promoting what some call "woke capitalism." Now, it intends to focus more on its main role as an LGBTQ+ civil rights organization. Corporate sponsors have voiced concerns about HRC’s political stance. They told the group that its overtly political actions were causing issues. In response, HRC has indicated it will shift back to its core mission. HRC is known for its Corporate Equality Index, which rates companies based on their hiring practices related to racial and gender preferences. However, many companies are opting out of this survey due to recent court rulings declaring racial preferences illegal. Companies that continue to partner with HRC are asking for less political involvement. An executive from a major bank stated that they want HRC to return to being primarily a civil rights group. HRC’s representatives have assured them of this change. However, an HRC spokesperson did not comment on the situation.
