Hurricane Rafael moves over Gulf of Mexico after damaging Cuba
Hurricane Rafael is currently moving through the Gulf of Mexico after causing significant damage in Cuba. The storm knocked out the power grid, collapsed hundreds of homes, and forced the evacuation of 283,000 people. As of Friday morning, Rafael was a Category 2 hurricane with maximum winds of 110 mph, located 230 miles from Progreso, Mexico. It is expected to weaken and move westward, with no hurricane warnings currently in effect. In Cuba, the government has restored power to about 143,000 homes in Havana, but many remain without electricity. Rafael follows a series of recent challenges for Cuba, including previous blackouts and a deadly hurricane that struck earlier.
